Big Dog.
You showed up in my dream unexpectedly again
Only this time it wasn't a nightmare.
So why did I wake up crying, you ask?
Well because it was the old you—
Or who I had always believed was you.
For twenty plus years,
You in your Big Dog and bowling shirts,
Grinning from ear to ear,
Happy to spend time with me
To share music with me
To claim me as your daughter.
But now
Your clothes are different
And just as unfamiliar as your smile.
I don't see you— hardly at all—
Let alone know what music you're listening to,
Or if your new friends even know my name.
Do you even know my name anymore?
Do you even know me?
