Construction.

I've always hated construction.
It's such a noisy hindrance, getting
In the way
Of where we're going.
It seems to be everywhere, constantly
In the way,
Delaying travel.
Causing confusion.
Changing direction.

But driving on my way home from work
I can't help but think
Is all construction
Something to be
Hated?
Is all construction really
In the way?

Driving through the fog
Passing the massive
Skeletal forms of the machines
I can't help but think
How they remind me of my own
Skeletons
Abandoned by the side of
So many roads that were
Meant to lead somewhere
Beautiful.

We've all gone under construction at
Some point in our lives.
A lot of our construction
Happened when we were
Growing up.
When we were
Maturing
When we were
"Adulting" for the first time.

That construction was never
In the way.
That construction couldn't
Possibly have been
In the way.
It helped shape us into
Who we are.

While at the time,
That construction made us feel
Vulnerable
Ugly
Inadequate
Wasn't that construction
Leading the way
To shape us into something
Better
Into something
Grand
Into something
Beautiful?

So while I might
Hate construction
Hate the noise
Hate the hindrance...
I cannot
Hate the possibility
Hate the intention
Hate the attempt
To make these roads lead somewhere
Beautiful.

This construction is not
In the way.
This construction is not
Something to be
Hated.

This construction is
Something to be admired.
For who can
Hate
The prospect of creating a
New path to something
Better
To something
Grand
To something
Beautiful?

After all
Without construction
Who would we all be?
What would we all be?
And most importantly,
Where would our
Original roads have
Taken us?

While construction may
Delay travel
Cause confusion
Change direction

Constructions is never
Ever
In a million years
In the way.
